Which judicial district serves Humboldt County

Under NRS 3.010, Nevada is divided into 11 judicial districts, and Humboldt County belongs to the Sixth Judicial District. Humboldt County is the only county in this district. For how the districts fit together statewide, see our map of Nevada's judicial districts.

The size of the district's bench is set by statute as well: the Sixth Judicial District has a single district judge under NRS 3.016 . Under NRS 3.100, district courts hold court at the county seat of each of their counties — for Humboldt County, court is held at the county seat, Winnemucca.

Humboldt County makes up a judicial district on its own with a single district judge — a distinction it shares only with Churchill County. Rather than maintaining separate court sites, the county consolidates information for both the district court and the Union Township Justice Court on one "Courts in Humboldt County" page, linked above.

District court

The district court is Nevada's main trial court — the level that handles felonies, family matters, probate, and larger civil cases. The Sixth Judicial District Court serves Humboldt County, whose county seat is Winnemucca.

Justice court

Justice courts are township-level courts that handle smaller civil claims, small claims, evictions, and misdemeanors. Humboldt County is served by the Union Township Justice Court in Winnemucca; the county's courts page above covers both courts.

Township boundaries decide which justice court hears a matter. The Nevada Judiciary's statewide justice court directory lists every justice court, with addresses and phone numbers.
