Which judicial district serves Lander County
Under NRS 3.010, Nevada is divided into 11 judicial districts, and Lander County belongs to the Eleventh Judicial District. The same district also covers Mineral County and Pershing County . For how the districts fit together statewide, see our map of Nevada's judicial districts.
The size of the district's bench is set by statute as well: the Eleventh Judicial District has a single district judge under NRS 3.0197 . Under NRS 3.100, district courts hold court at the county seat of each of their counties — for Lander County, court is held at the county seat, Battle Mountain ; the same judges also hold court in Hawthorne for Mineral County and in Lovelock for Pershing County matters .
Lander County is one of three counties served by a single shared district judge, who holds court in Battle Mountain for Lander matters as well as in Hawthorne and Lovelock for the district's other counties. Battle Mountain is also one of only two Nevada county seats (Virginia City is the other) not expressly designated in the statutes on county seats — its courthouse location is documented through the official court directory instead.
District court
The district court is Nevada's main trial court — the level that handles felonies, family matters, probate, and larger civil cases. The Eleventh Judicial District Court serves Lander County, whose county seat is Battle Mountain.
Justice courts
Justice courts are township-level courts that handle smaller civil claims, small claims, evictions, and misdemeanors. Lander County is served by the Argenta Township Justice Court (Battle Mountain) and the Austin Township Justice Court.
