Which judicial district serves Nye County
Under NRS 3.010, Nevada is divided into 11 judicial districts, and Nye County belongs to the Fifth Judicial District. The same district also covers Esmeralda County . For how the districts fit together statewide, see our map of Nevada's judicial districts.
The size of the district's bench is set by statute as well: the Fifth Judicial District has two district judges under NRS 3.015 . Under NRS 3.100, district courts hold court at the county seat of each of their counties — for Nye County, court is held at the county seat, Tonopah ; the same judges also hold court in Goldfield for Esmeralda County matters .
Nye County shares its two-judge judicial district with Esmeralda County, and district court for Nye matters is held in Tonopah, the county seat, while the county's justice courts sit in the Pahrump, Tonopah, and Beatty townships. Some older descriptions of this district still include Mineral County; under the current statute, the district consists of Nye and Esmeralda only.
District court
The district court is Nevada's main trial court — the level that handles felonies, family matters, probate, and larger civil cases. The Fifth Judicial District Court serves Nye County, whose county seat is Tonopah.
Justice courts
Justice courts are township-level courts that handle smaller civil claims, small claims, evictions, and misdemeanors. Nye County townships are served by the Pahrump, Tonopah, and Beatty township justice courts; the county's courts page lists them.
