Which judicial district serves Storey County
Under NRS 3.010, Nevada is divided into 11 judicial districts, and Storey County belongs to the First Judicial District. The same district also covers Carson City . For how the districts fit together statewide, see our map of Nevada's judicial districts.
The size of the district's bench is set by statute as well: the First Judicial District has two district judges under NRS 3.011 . Under NRS 3.100, district courts hold court at the county seat of each of their counties — for Storey County, court is held at the county seat, Virginia City ; the same judges also hold court in Carson City for Carson City matters .
Storey County pairs with Carson City in a two-county judicial district but keeps its own courthouse, with district court held in Virginia City for Storey County matters. Virginia City is one of only two Nevada county seats (Battle Mountain is the other) not expressly designated in the statutes on county seats — its status is documented through the official court directory listings.
District court
The district court is Nevada's main trial court — the level that handles felonies, family matters, probate, and larger civil cases. The First Judicial District Court serves Storey County, whose county seat is Virginia City.
Justice court
Justice courts are township-level courts that handle smaller civil claims, small claims, evictions, and misdemeanors. Storey County is served by the Virginia Township Justice Court in Virginia City.
